Schiller Five Plays: The Robbers, Passion and Politics, Don Carlos, Mary Stuart, Joan of Arc (Absolute Classics)
Published in Paperback by Consortium Book Sales & Dist (October, 1998)
Average review score:

The best (and only) available translation of Schiller playsThis is an awesome collection of truly outstanding translations of Schiller's drama, five plays total, including "The Robbers," "Don Carlos," "Mary Stuart," "Intrigue and Love," and "The Maid of Orleans." This whopper of a 700-page volume will allow the modern reader to see exactly why Schiller is justly ranked with Goethe as the second giant of German literature. For anyone interested in an inexplicably neglected major figure in world literature, this book is indispensable!

Science Project (Terror Academy)
Published in Paperback by Berkley Pub Group (February, 1994)
Average review score:

One of the Best in the Series! It's been years, since I've read the entire Terror Academy series. So it's quite strange to review this particular one. However, I could never forget TERROR ACADEMY: SCIeEnce Project. It's one of my favorite books and (in my opinion) one of the best in the entire series. Having (at a young age) been subjected to ridicule in school myself, I found myself constantly sympathizing with the main character. Pine's writting is so rich and full of immense detail, it's a shame this book along with the entire series became underrated; especally when compared to Christopher Pike's novels. The story about a nerd who tries to get back at his cruel classmates by turning his pets into prehistoric creatures via a secrect experiment, actually has a significant underlying theme that should be taken into consideration amongst young readers; which is more than I can say for most YA horror novels. Now 21, I'm still looking forward from reading other works by Pine soon. I highly recommend this wild, frightening, and eventually pointy novel that reminds us all that "the best type of revenge is to not become the one who did the injury."

The Science Times Book of Archaeology
Published in Hardcover by The Lyons Press (August, 1999)
Average review score:

A Fun ReadThis book uses reprints of recent news-breaking stories of archeological discoveries to provide fascinating glimpses of past civilizations. The scope of these glimpses varies from peasants to royalty, from the Old World to the New World of the Americas, and from 117,000 years ago (Humans' Earliest Footprints Discovered) to 1944 (the sinking of the Japanese submarine I-52 with more than two tons of gold aboard).
The stories unflinchingly portray ancient human nature, a nature not so different from modern humans. For example, archeological remains often tell gruesome tales of human suffering and sacrifices. However, some ancient remains are poignant, such as a child's footprint left in the soft clay beside a hearth at Monte Verde (southern Chile) 12,500 years ago.
The book was a fun read. As a bonus to me, it provided some background for the archeological aspects of a novel I am writing.

The Selected Letters of Bertrand Russell: The Public Years, 1914-1970
Published in Paperback by Routledge (July, 2002)
Average review score:

AN OUTSTANDING SELECTIONThis book is recommended reading for anyone interested in a fresh approach to the workings of the mind one of the greatest philosophers of the 20th century.
It is a selection of 338 letters written by Bertrand Russell between 1914 and 1970. Sifting though more than 40,000 letters is no simple feat. Fortunately the editor is Nicholas Griffin, director of the Bertrand Russel Research Center at McMaster University in Ontario. As editor of Russell's "Collected Papers", he is in an enviable position to provide us with the juiciest tidbits of Russell's dry humour, as well as a portrait of a passionate man.
The editor commentaries to the letters are useful in order to better understand and put in perspective some events and people mentioned by this very extraordinary thinker. One that you have to know well, if you are to understand how could he write in 1967
that "a great deal of work has come upon me, neglect of which might jeopardise the continuation of the human being......" Kudos to the editor.

Selected Letters of E.M. Forster: 1879-1920
Published in Hardcover by Belknap Pr (November, 1983)

Absolutely essential for Forster scholars! This two volume set is essential for the Forster scholar. Edited by Mary Lago, one of the foremost Forster scholars, it contains some of the highlights of his voluminous correspondence. Up until his death in 1970, Forster wrote up to twelve letters (!) a day, many of which are stored in the Forster archives at Kings College in Cambridge, England. Dr. Lago painstakingly sifted through those massive archival files and translated Forster's unique penmanship and wonderful letter writing style into a lovely, insightful, and entertaining two-volume set of correspondence.

Selected Poems (Everyman Paperback Classics)

Very Well written and Literely Breath taking.I loved this book. It is truly a classic. Keats is long before my time, however his work that he left behind is still here and leaves a big mark on the world of poets. Wanting to be a journalist myself, and having a hunger for literature, Keats' book was quite inspiring. I recommend it for any poet. One of my favorites is, of course, "When I have fears that I may Cease To Be."

Seven Per Cent Solution

A fine blend of fiction and factWritten with an amazing story teller perspective, this book tells us about where Sherlock Holmes had been hiding for five years of his life : in the glamoured city of Vienna and in the hands of Dr. Sigmund Freud, in search for a cure to cocaine addiction. But ultimately, his treatment turns into a mad search to understand the meaning of Professor Moriarty, his archenemy and perhaps a product of his fantastic imagination and childhood memories. If anyone is looking for a great piece of reading entertainement which pairs golden pieces of Sherlockian investigation with Freudian psychonalysis - this is a treat !
